Here I will break down some of my favorite rookies and some of the draft picks I think were the smartest, and least smart, this year.
Mario Williams - Houston Texans: I really disagree with this pick. Their defence isn't there problem, but neither is their backfield, so I wouldn't agree with Reggie Bush being picked either. Their problem is their o-line, so I think they should have picked D'Brickshaw Ferguson. He would help protect David Carr, and I think that if Carr has protection he could be a good quarterback.
Reggie Bush - New Orleans Saints: Although I'm surprised Bush went second, I don't think the Saints need him either. They have a good back in Deuce McCallister. I think A.J. Hawk would have been a good pick, even though it's only the second pick. Right now the Saints defence isn't too bad, but Hawk would add a good presence at linebacker.
Vince Young - Tennesse Titans: I think this was a great pick when McNair was still a Titan. McNair and Young are both mobile quarterbacks that can take a hit. Because of their similar styles, McNair would have been a great mentor for Young and helped him develop into one of the best QBs in the Leauge. Now that McNair is gone, I think Young wont live up to what I previously mentioned, but will still be a great quarterback.
D'Brickshaw Ferguson - New York Jets: I think this was another smart pick, D'brickshaw is a great blocker that I think will do very well alongside Anthony Clement protecting the Jets new addition, quarterback Patrick Ramsey.
Vernon Davis - San Fransisco 49ers: I think this pick was a fairly good one. Vernon Davis is quite a unique tight end though, so it is hard to tell how he will do inthe NFL. He ran a 4.38 on the 40 yard dash wich is good for a reciever, never mind a tight end. He also managed a respectable 33 bench press reps of a 225lb weight. He will be a great target for young quarterback Alex Smith.
